Welcome to the online home of Gouldryck Rottweilers! HEALTH PAGE It is vital that you register your puppy with a vet as soon as you can. Don't wait until he starts to feel poorly. Although he may look robust, a new puppy is vulnerable and needs protecting from a number of "nasties". We have included a list of vaccinations, but please check with your vet is your not sure. The first visit is also a great opportunity to ask any questions about your pup's general health. this probably won't be one of your puppy's favourite experiences, but keep him calm and relaxed and he'll probably notice it less than you. Give him lots of cuddles and tak a favorite toy or blanket to comforthim. Natrually you want your dog to enjoy a long healthy life - and of course we wish that too. But in most areas of life th unexpected can happen and it's probably best to be pepared if your dog requires lengthy medical treatment or an expensive operation. So have a think about health insurance for your dog and call 01296 390617 for a free quotation on the Kennel Club Healthcare Plan PAWS AND CLAWS? If you notice your puppy's licking a paw or limping, gently examine the pads for cuts or tiny objects. If you can't see anything and you are getting a bit worried, do not hesitate to call your vet for advise. Claws constantly grow but will wear down natrually if you walk your dogs on pavements. If he is excercised on grass {which of course he'll love} his claws will become too long and must be clipped. Your vet will be happy to clip them and can show you how to do it too if you ask. TEETH AND GUMS? Just like babies, puppies go through teething too, so don't be concerned when your puppy looses his milk teeth. This also mean that he'll need to chew - it isn't because he enjoys gnawing his way through the furniture. You can limit the damage by buying him a couple of chewing toys and encourage your pup to get his teeth into those instead. Whn your dog is a bit older his teeth will need cleaning on a regular basis, so start as early as possible t lt yourpuppy get used to it. Use a special toothpaste and a small toothbrush. It will help to keep breath fresh too, you can also buy special dog chews that clean teeth and freshen breath at the same time. WORMING?
Most puppies are born with roundworms, while not usually life threatening,
EASY ON BATHS? A dog has natrual oils which keeps it waterproof and shining wit good health. Too much bathing can remove these oils and make it dull, so only bath as part of a flea treatment, or if he is really dirty. Human shampoo can be too harsh and will dry out his skin, so stick to shampoos specially made for dogs. GROOMING? The type of breed you have will dictate the amount of time you spend on grooming. Long haired types will probably need brushing everyday ad short haired breeds less frequently. Your dog's coat may also be trimmed to keep it neat and in good condition. |
